Located in the west of Hoa Binh, bordering the Moc Chau district of Son La, Mai Chau valley is the top destination for many young people who love the natural and cultural beauty of the ethnic minorities.
Mai Chau is an appropriate destination in all seasons, you can refer to the beauty of the seasons of Mai Chau below:
November – February: In winter, the air is chilly, peach blossom, plum blossom bloom in one corner of Mai Chau.
March – April: Cool and pleasant weather in the blooming season.
May – August: The climate is quite cool, no flowers but there are plums, peaches for you to pick. At the beginning of September, Independence Day attracts thousands of domestic and foreign tourists.
Destinations not to be missed when traveling to Mai Chau:
1- Thung Khe Pass
Located on National Road No. 6, Hoa Binh province, Thung Khe mountain pass, is about 1,000 meters above sea level. Here visitors can enjoy the rustic food displayed on the roadside such as boiled corn, boiled sugarcane, sesame green rice, … Moreover, from the top of Thung Khe, you can zoom in to see the entire valley at the foot of the pass, is known as one of the most beautiful places to admire Hoa Binh province.
2- The Lac Village
Lac village is over 700 years old, the people of Lac village are mainly black Thai people who lived in the cultivation of upland rice and brocade weaving. This place is a gift of the mountains for those who love the peace and quiet to join in the green space of Hoa Binh mountain.
Currently, Lac Village has nearly 30 spacious and airy homestay motels to serve services, catering the tourist needs. Stilt houses in Lac village are tall, spacious and clean, keeping the ancient architecture. Inside each service house is fully equipped with tidy, cushions, pillows neatly organized.
Taking a walk around the village, you will not see any act of inducing visitors or soliciting purchases. Items such as scarves, Thai dresses, lovely purses, bows, crossbows, bamboo flutes, buffalo gongs, gongs, horns, and buffalo horns … are sold on the doorstep, you can get to try, Take photos without fear of being noticed or complaining, even if you do not buy nor upset the owner.
3- Pom Coong Village
Like other villages of Muong and Thai people, Pom Coong people often live in places where rivers and streams are built, leaning against hills and mountains, in front of the house is usually a vast field.
The attractive point of Pom Coong in tourism is that it is very clean space, from clean water sources, water works, toilets are organized to make visitors feel fresh and safe. Besides, waste here is sorted, stored in bins and will be disposed. Therefore, come here, you will feel the purity of heaven and earth and the peace of life.
4. Mo Luong cave
Located in Pu Pa mountain system of Mai Chau town, about 2 km from Lac village. Mo Luong Cave is an ideal tourist destination for those who love to explore and find strange feelings when coming to Mai Chau. Mo Luong cave also has another name given by the Thai White people named Bo Luong. Bo Luong means a large water field. Mo Luong cave consists of 4 main caves, famous for its stalactite system, which creates many unique shapes. During the anti-French resistance war, this place used to be a meeting place for our army and people. After finishing the exploration of Mo Luong cave, at the last cave, visitors will admire an underground stream flowing to a nearby lake.
5- Afternoon Cave
Chieu Cave is located on the top of the Pu Pa limestone mountain range. The name Hang Chieu was given to the people of Mai Chau, because when the sun comes in the afternoon, the sunlight shines straight into the cave, the rays add to the splendor of the stalactite, creating a beautiful scene like a place to hold hybrid.
The cave is quite wide, divided into two floors, the cave is relatively flat and airy. Inside the cave is the whole shimmering and fanciful stalactite forest. Stalactites are found on all sides, from the left to the right, and from the ceiling dome hanging down with the lively looks. The deeper you go into the cave, the more you will be really surprised at the splendid and magnificent beauty of the stalactite forest blooming. All are in harmony, creating the scenery of the majestic picture that nature bestowed on Mai Chau.

6- Pa Co fair
Pa Co fair is 40km far from Mai Chau town to the North, between the centers of 3 communes Hang Kia, Pa Co (Mai Chau) and Loong Luong (Moc Chau, Son La). Pa Co fair is only held on Sunday every week, when the fog is still spread all over the forest, all over the mountain, the people of H’Mong in Mai Chau upland eagerly come to the market. The highland market here is not only a place to buy, sell and exchange goods, but also a place to meet and exchange of people in highland areas.
Pa Co fair although it takes place once a week, but busy as a festival and Tet market under the swell. The market sells everything, coming here you will be “overwhelmed” by a range of products from agricultural products, livestock, cloth, brocade, farm tools to even household appliances, electronics, music discs. , cosmetic…
