1- One of the widest temples in Vietnam
The current Bai Dinh pagoda complex covers an area of 539ha, including 27ha of the old Bai Dinh pagoda with a history dating back to the Dinh Dynasty and 80ha of the Bai Dinh pagoda area newly built in 2003, among many other items. Surrounding the pagoda are large, magnificent limestone arcs, harmonizing with the temple scene to form a massive and solemn building. With the current scale of Bai Dinh pagoda, there is hardly any other temple in Vietnam that can be compared.
2- The largest gold-plated Buddha statue in Asia
The statue of Shakyamuni Buddha sitting on a lotus throne and reciting a lotus flower at the main hall in the Temple has been established by the Asian Record Center as the largest gold-plated bronze Buddha statue on the whole continent. With 10m high statue, weighs 100 tons of pure gold inlaid bronze, placed on a 1.5m high pedestal is one of the symbols of Bai Dinh pagoda.
3. The largest bronze Maitreya Buddha statue in Southeast Asia
Located on a hill to the right of the Tam The Buddha temple of Bai Dinh pagoda, this statue has been recognized as the largest Maitreya statue in Vietnam by the Vietnam Book of Records Center. The area of 10m high bronze statue, weighs 80 tons is a famous photography spot in Ninh Binh of tourists when coming here.
4- The tallest stupa in Southeast Asia
Located on the west side of Tam The Palace in the new Bai Dinh pagoda area, the relic stupa consists of 13 storeys with a hexagonal circumference of 24m and a height of 99m – a number symbolizing eternity, goodness and lucky. The stupa was designed and built in a purely Vietnamese style with architectural imprints of the Ly Dynasty Buddhism. The top floor of the tower is the sanctuary and relics of Buddha’s relics are welcomed from India.
5- The longest Arhat corridor in Asia
The La Han corridor of Bai Dinh pagoda has a length of nearly 3km, displaying statues of stone Arhat. From Tam Quan wooden houses in two directions: East and West along to Ta Vu and Huu Vu pagoda, each side consists of 117 corridors. Each row of the La Han corridor at Bai Dinh pagoda has an architecture from low to high with 22 steps, each step is 1.35m high, built entirely of wood.
6. The pagoda has the most Arhat statues in Vietnam
At the pagoda, there are 500 monolithic stone statues from 1.5m to 2m high placed along the Arhat corridor, are soft and delicate carvings. More specifically, each statue is shaped of a face, a completely different sitting posture. To the expressions of the Arhat also each one looks extremely interesting.
7- The largest copper bell in Vietnam
Named as Dai Hong chung, this bell weighs up to 36 tons, 5.5 meters high, 3.7 meters in diameter placed in the Temple’s Bell Tower, used in the shelf and worship. The bells are made entirely of domestically produced red copper, with many motifs on the body, motifs modeled from ancient bells, with prominent Chinese characters engraved on Buddhist themes.
8. The pagoda area has the biggest pearl well in Vietnam
The Ngoc Well pagoda was recently rebuilt at the site of the old Ngoc well near the foot of Bai Dinh mountain, associated with a miraculous story nearly 1,000 years ago when Zen monk Nguyen Minh Khong took water to decoction medicine for people. The well is shaped like a half moon, 30m in diameter, 6m deep, and especially never runs out of water. This place is honored to be set a record in 2007 by Vietnam Record Book Center.
9- The pagoda area has the most number of Bodhi trees in Vietnam
Within the temple grounds are 100 Bodhi trees extracted from the Bodhi trees in India, planted on the occasion of the United Nations Buddha’s Day in Vietnam on May 17, 2008. Each Bodhi tree was planted by a Party and State leader and attached a name tag to the stele. The linden trees radiate green shade, creating a beautiful landscape for the population of Bai Dinh Pagoda.
